About me

Hello, my name is Tyler Lewis, and I’m a 20-year-old sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where I’m pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering. Over the past 9 years, I’ve developed a deep passion for programming and problem-solving. My journey in programming began at a young age, and much of my early experience was centered around Java. This allowed me to build a strong foundation in coding principles and object-oriented programming. In more recent years, I've expanded my skill set to include web development, focusing on both front-end and back-end technologies. I've been diving into modern frameworks and tools, honing my expertise in technologies like JavaScript, React, and Node.js. I’m particularly interested in the redevelopment and design aspects of creating interactive and responsive web applications. As a student, I am constantly seeking to grow my knowledge and gain hands-on experience, and I’m excited about applying what I’ve learned to real-world projects. I'm always looking for new challenges to improve my technical skills and broaden my understanding of computer engineering.

Projects

DishScout

DishScout is a React Native kitchen assistant that helps users discover recipes and manage grocery lists, featuring fluid navigation with React Navigation (Stack + Bottom Tabs), smooth animations via Reanimated and Gesture Handler, offline persistence with AsyncStorage, and responsive layouts using react-native-responsive-screen. The app delivers polished UX touches like interactive BouncyCheckbox components. Built with JavaScript and tested with Expo, this project showcases my ability to create delightful, production-ready mobile experiences with React Native's core ecosystem.

Snow Removal Website Example

This site showcases my skills in web development, featuring a clean and responsive design with an emphasis on user experience. You’ll find examples of my work across various technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React. Each project demonstrates my ability to build intuitive and engaging interfaces, as well as my problem-solving skills in creating dynamic, interactive web applications. Feel free to explore and get in touch if you're interested in collaborating or learning more about my work!

Fridge Tracker

This system is designed to track the expiration dates of various items stored in the fridge. It provides an efficient and user-friendly way to monitor the freshness of food by automatically recording the expiration dates of groceries as they are added. Once an item is nearing its expiration, the system sends timely notifications to the user, helping to prevent food waste and ensuring that expired items are used or discarded in a timely manner. This feature is especially useful for households and individuals looking to maintain better organization and maximize the lifespan of their food, leading to improved overall food management and reduced waste.

Debt Collector

The Debt Collection Program is a simple and efficient tool designed to help debt collectors manage, track, and recover outstanding debts. This program provides features to streamline the debt recovery process, ensuring proper record-keeping and effective communication with debtors. Additionally, it is integrated with Stripe for seamless payment processing, allowing debtors to make payments directly through the platform for a smooth and secure transaction experience.

The Dorm Room Developer

The Dorm Room Developer is my personal blog where I document the transition from student coder to software entrepreneur. As a college student with years of experience in full-stack development—but zero experience in SaaS—I created this space to share the real, unfiltered journey of learning how to build and grow software-based businesses. Through this blog, I cover what I’m building, what I’m learning, and the lessons I pick up along the way—from technical insights and Firebase experiments to failures, pivots, and small wins. It’s part devlog, part journal, and part roadmap for anyone starting from scratch in the world of SaaS. Whether you're a fellow developer, a curious student, or someone exploring the business side of tech, The Dorm Room Developer offers a transparent and relatable look at what it’s really like to bootstrap something from a college dorm.
